Sleep Medicine

What is Sleep Medicine?

At a time that demands many of us to stimulate our senses in order to get the most out of our days, sleep is still the best medicine. Shutting ourselves down and falling asleep is how our bodies naturally repair from the day that was, and prepare for the days to come. Are you waking up groggy every morning, even if the clock says you slept for eight hours? Are you frequently tired during the day? It could be that you’re not getting the right kind of sleep at night. As a medical specialty, sleep medicine is devoted to the diagnosis and therapy of sleep disturbances and disorders. Sleep specialists focus on sleep, sleep disorders, and sleep-related conditions, and often coordinate their care with other specialties, including neurology, pulmonology, internal medicine, and psychiatry. They diagnose and treat a number of sleep-related conditions, from excessive snoring to sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, and circadian rhythm disorders.
