Information about the Endoscopy Center

Gastrointestinal endoscopy

Gastroenterologists at the Vancouver Clinic Endoscopy Center commonly perform endoscopic procedures—minimally invasive procedures used to examine and treat conditions inside the body.

Upper endoscopy (esophagogastroduodenoscopy or EGD) procedures allow doctors to examine the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. Colonoscopies let physicians see the colon and rectum and look for conditions such as ulcers, polyps, and cancers.

During an endoscopy procedure, a physician inserts a long, flexible tube into the body via a stoma or natural body opening. The tube is outfitted with a high-definition video camera on the end, allowing a comprehensive look at internal areas. These procedures are painless and are often performed under anesthesia.

Implantable loop recorders

Cardiologists at the Endoscopy Center offer loop recorder placements and removals. An implantable loop recorder is a device that records an individual’s heartbeat continuously for up to three years. The device, also called a cardiac event recorder, collects and sends valuable information to the patient’s doctor about how the heart is managing daily activities. The small device is placed just under the skin of the chest during a minor surgery.
