Hospitalist/Nocturnist

As the primary physician for patients at night, Dr. Terry Hsiao makes sure treatment plans and specialist visits are lined up so that individuals can make progress during the day. He strives to help patients feel less scared, more confident, and a little bit happier during their healing journey.

Dr. Hsiao feels a special sense of duty as a nocturnist. He continues to be inspired by an old saying in Chinese philosophy: If I do not venture into darkness to help, then who will? He has a special interest in end-of-life discussions.

Dr. Hsiao followed his father, an ear, nose, and throat physician, into medicine. Dr. Hsiao started his education at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia, earning a bachelor of science in biochemistry. He went on to finish a doctor of medicine at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. He completed an internal medicine residency at Danbury Hospital in Danbury, Connecticut.

A certified sommelier, Dr. Hsiao previously worked in wine education. He enjoys traveling to different wine regions and vineyards. Disappointed with the quality of seafood in the Portland area, he learned how to spearfish and bring home his own rockfish and lingcod.
