Social Worker
Skylar Newkirk creates a safe environment for patients to explore their trauma and stress. They consider patient autonomy, empathy, and active and compassionate listening to be essential to the therapeutic process. They focus on connecting individuals to their inner wisdom and resilience.
Skylar has a special interest in working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community. They are passionate about providing culturally competent services to those who are exploring their sexual orientation and gender identity. As a former volunteer emergency medical technician, they also enjoy supporting first responders and healthcare workers. Skylar often incorporates trauma-specific healing modalities into their work.
Skylar earned a bachelor of social work at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. They earned a master of social work at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. Skylar is a licensed independent clinical social worker.
Many of Skylar’s hobbies change with the seasons. During the warmer months, they garden, play softball, swim, and frequent local farmers markets. When the weather cools down, they enjoy listening to live music, skiing, reading fantasy or sci-fi novels, and playing dodgeball. Their year-round hobbies include traveling, writing, watching other people sing karaoke, and snuggling with their two cats and scruffy dog. Skylar spent so much time with their tattoo artist that they became best friends.
