Dr. Riyad Fares cares for adult patients with complex medical needs. He enjoys spending time educating patients and considers a strong patient-physician relationship to be fundamental to great health care.
Dr. Fares was a hospitalist for the first six years of his career and is invested in helping geriatric patients avoid hospitalization. He also has a special interest in men’s health.
The oldest of five boys, Dr. Fares grew up in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. His father was a cardiologist and his mother a schoolteacher. Their service and compassion inspired him to also choose a career focused on helping others. Dr. Fares completed his doctor of medicine and internal medicine residency at Wayne State University and St. John Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He completed a master of business administration at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. He is board certified in internal medicine and a fellow of the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Fares is married to Dr. Krista Swaninger, an emergency medicine physician in Portland, Oregon. They have two daughters and a son and love taking their family on weekend trips throughout the Pacific Northwest. In his spare time, Dr. Fares enjoys coaching boys basketball, reading history books, skiing, and rooting for the Trail Blazers and Timbers.
