Michelle Kassens, CNM
Certified Nurse Midwife
Michelle Kassens enjoys taking care of women throughout their lifespan. From educating women about contraception options, to caring for moms during their pregnancy and birth experience, to helping individuals navigate perimenopause and menopause, Michelle is there at every step. She also enjoys teaching about self-care, such as meditation and nutrition. As a midwife, her goal is to honor each person’s uniqueness while providing excellent care. At the end of each visit she wants patients to feel their needs were met.
While Michelle is passionate about all aspects of midwifery care, she particularly enjoys helping moms and babies be successful with breastfeeding. As a registered nurse, she obtained lactation certification through the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners. She continues to offer help and support to both new and experienced moms as they work through breastfeeding issues and celebrate successes.
Michelle earned a bachelor of science in nursing from Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon, and her master of nursing in midwifery from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. Before becoming a midwife, Michelle worked as a doula, nutritionist, and nurse. She has cared for patients in a variety of settings, including labor and delivery, postpartum, and NICU units. She has also cared for juvenile offenders in a facility setting and worked as a lead school nurse.
Michelle is an enthusiastic reader, casual hiker, and movie buff. Both she and her husband enjoy hiking with their dogs around Washington state. They are avid Disney fans and frequently travel to Disneyland to experience a little magic and sunshine. Together, they have two sons, one grandson, and two dogs.
