Joan M. Hunter, MD
Dr. Joan Hunter enjoys working with patients to help them take control of their health. She finds it rewarding to watch small changes lead to better wellness in the people she cares for. She believes practicing gratitude—taking time to recognize and appreciate the things one is thankful for—can promote physical and mental health. She encourages patients to focus on the positives in their lives, as well as how healthy habits like whole food diets and regular exercise can create lifelong wellness.
In 2020, Dr. Hunter earned a secondary board certification in Lifestyle Medicine and enjoys bringing these skills to her patient interactions. Lifestyle Medicine is an evidence based practice that focuses on making healthy changes in six areas of health to prevent, treat and reverse chronic disease.
Dr. Hunter was born and raised outside of New Orleans, Louisiana. She completed medical school at Louisiana State University School of Medicine. She moved to the Northwest for her internal medicine residency at Oregon Health & Science University. She has been both a hospitalist and more recently a primary care practitioner in the Adult Medicine clinics.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Hunter loves spending time with her two young children, running, yoga and wine tasting with her husband. She enjoys eating fresh local foods and hearing New Orleans musicians when they come to the area.
