Derek Meyer, MD
Urgent Care Physician
Dr. Derek Meyer considers good health to be a team effort between a patient and provider. He approaches individuals with the goal of empowering them to make the right decisions for their illness and lifestyle. He enjoys being a trusted consultant on urgent issues and helping people gain insights into chronic concerns. Because a patient’s community and support system are also vital components of health, he encourages people to take care of each other.
Dr. Meyer graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Urbana, Illinois. He completed a residency in family medicine at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago. He has a special interest in wilderness medicine and completed a wilderness medicine fellowship through the University of California San Francisco in Fresno, California. He trusts in the therapeutic power of being outdoors and believes that spending more time among the forests, mountains, and rivers—and away from screens—can improve a person’s physical and mental health.
Away from medicine, Dr. Meyer enjoys hiking and backpacking with his wife and their dogs. He’s also an avid trail runner, amateur welder, writer, and beginning mycologist. He loves foraging for chanterelles and other fun fungi.
