Benjamin Cornell Yan, MD
Pathologist
Dr. Benjamin Yan recognizes that behind every biopsy and test sample is a person who is waiting for answers. The thought that any given patient is somebody’s parent, child, sibling, friend, or spouse inspires him to provide the best possible care. He knows that accurate diagnoses enable tailored treatments and provide relief, and he enjoys being able to make a positive difference in patients’ lives.
Dr. Yan was drawn to the field of pathology because of how it fuses science, medicine, and art. He likes tackling complex problems of every variety, but has a special interest in diseases affecting the blood and the gastrointestinal system.
Dr. Yan earned a bachelor of science in biochemistry from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. He earned a doctorate in biochemistry and a doctor of medicine from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Champaign, Illinois. Dr. Yan completed a residency in anatomic pathology at the University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. He went on to complete a fellowship in gastrointestinal and hepatic pathology, also at Chicago. He completed a fellowship in hematopathology at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
He was previously a staff pathologist for several medical centers in Illinois, as well as a clinical assistant professor of pathology at the University of Illinois. Dr. Yan is board certified in anatomic pathology and hematopathology.
Away from medicine, Dr. Yan enjoys spending time with his wife, son, and two Goldendoodles.
