Alma Fe Houghton, MD
Internist
Dr. Alma Fe Houghton enjoys building relationships with patients and caring for them over many years. As an internist, she focuses on understanding her patients’ health goals and what motivates them in life in order to better coach them toward success.
Dr. Houghton sees patients of all ages. She has a special interest in preventive medicine, women’s health, and LGBTQ+ health. She also appreciates the opportunity to take care of multiple people within the same family as it allows her to learn about their group dynamic.
Before becoming a physician, Dr. Houghton earned a bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Alaska in Anchorage, Alaska. She then worked as an oncology nurse for seven years in San Diego, California. Working with cancer patients inspired her to go back to school to broaden her medical knowledge and do more for patients.
She went on to earn a doctor of medicine from Ross University School of Medicine and completed a residency in internal medicine at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. She has volunteered her medical expertise in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
In her free time, Dr. Houghton enjoys kayaking, paddle boarding, playing tennis, and hiking with her dog, an Alaskan Klee Kai. She has traveled to more than 20 countries and lived on three continents, once staying with a local family on the Peruvian boarder of the Amazon Rainforest.
