Alex Barnes-Rickett, MD
Understanding that a hospital is a scary place for most people, Dr. Alex Barnes-Rickett focuses on giving patients the emotional comfort they need while their body heals. She makes sure patients and their families understand their illness and treatment so they can make informed decisions about their health and know what to expect in the future. She strives to create a relaxed environment where patients can share their thoughts, questions, and feelings without judgment.
Dr. Barnes-Rickett was inspired to enter medicine by her parents, who had rewarding careers as physicians. Medical mission trips to Honduras and Nicaragua cemented her career path. Dr. Barnes-Rickett enjoys working with a patient’s entire health team to develop the best plan for each person. She has special interests in infectious diseases and end-of-life care.
Dr. Barnes-Rickett earned bachelor of arts degrees in history and sociology at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. She earned a doctor of medicine at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. She went on to complete an internship and internal medicine residency at Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, Oregon.
In her free time, Dr. Barnes-Rickett enjoys going on walks with her husband, child, and dogs; painting with watercolors; camping; and eating vegan food. When she was 17 she climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro with her dad.
